Vector Letter Exercise

Image
I had the idea of doing an ancient world theme with the letters I picked. I kind of went with a sailor/pioneer/viking theme when I did the celtic design, and just went with it. The 2nd letter is more symbolic to like the sky and water, it sort of looks like a compass with a swirl. The star design kind of tied in my sailor/viking using the stars as guides. :-)

How Cameras Work

Image
How Cameras Work Given that art is revolutionizing, and the cause of this revolution is because of cameras and new technology. I thought it would be best to learn the core functions of cameras to better understand how technology and media come together. The transition from film to digital definitely pushes media art forward into a smoother, more refined artistic piece by using pixels.

“Funnel (1974)  incorporated three performances areas separated by curtains in which Jonas performed rituals based on her interest in magic and the traditions of the native Americans of the American Southwest.” Rush p. 43.  Joan Jonas, I’d like to learn more about Native American artists. They seem like an underrepresented class of artists because our cultures was destroyed. I feel as though we’re looking at the remnants of an old empire and civilization.

My initial impression is that the use of photography revolutionized the art community and exploring new areas. Photography also seems to cut art off in terms of avant- grade artists? “The end of art as we know it. It came to an end” by Arthur Danto. New Media In Art Rush p. 8. & 14.

Old Art Censorship and New Art Freedom

Creativity in the digital age I like how this article describes the censorship of art before the internet became wildly popular. Predating the use of Instagram, Snap, and Myspace, people are so used to pressing a couple of taps on their smart phone that they don't realize that some places don't have access to most websites let alone most apps. Or how apps use photo filters to alter and change pictures in a matter of seconds.
